The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has announced that the 2021 Safer Gambling Week will be held between November 1 and 7. The event comes as a result of the collaboration between the gambling industry and regulatory bodies on building a safer gambling environment.

The November event will be brought by the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA), the Betting and Gaming Council, and the Bingo Association. The 2021 Safer Gambling Week will inform players about responsible gambling practices online and in brick-and-mortar gambling venues.

High expectations are set for 2021 since the 2020 event was very successful despite the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, last year’s Safer Gambling Week brought 19% more interactions on social media, educating over 19 million people about responsible gaming. Moreover, the Safer Gambling Week website also recorded an 18% increase in traffic volume compared to 2019.

The campaign’s success was also reflected in the reports of gambling operators, which showed a rise in the number of players opting for deposit limits and self-exclusion.

BGC’s chief executive, Michael Dugher, expects this year’s event to bring even more outstanding results, especially considering that the topics on safer gambling will be introduced through multiple channels. He added that the organisation was looking forward to joining forces with the other participants of the Safer Gambling Week.

The importance of the event was also acknowledged by the chief executive of the Bingo Association, Miles Baron. He believes it helps raise awareness of gambling-related issues and provides support to bingo players.

BACTA’s chief executive, John White, joined the other participants in a show of support for the 2021 Safer Gambling Week. White noted that, even though the gaming industry was already employing multiple tools to familiarise players with gambling responsibly, these could still evolve further to ensure a safer gambling space.

The Safer Gambling Week organisers are yet to be revealed. Anyone wanting to participate or learn more about the event can do so through the official website of the Safer Gambling UK
